Distinguished award for Lindholmens Tekniske Gymnasium
The newly built technical upper secondary school Lindholmens Tekniske Gymnasium has just won the ‘School Building of the Year Award 2021’. Troldtekt acoustic panels on the ceilings and walls ensure a comfortable sound environment at the school.
Lindholmens Tekniske Gymnasium in Gothenburg was ready to open its doors to new students after the summer holidays in 2020. Now the building has won the School Building of the Year 2021 award. The award has been presented by the conference and event organiser Nohrcon, with a professional jury and 700 public votes selecting Lindholmens Tekniske Gymnasium as the winner.
On behalf of the jury, jury member Søren Øllgaard, a partner and design director at Henning Larsen Architects, says:
– Lindholmens Tekniska Gymnasium is an exact, prismatic building volume with elegant skylights. The facades are refined, detailed and discreet. Inside, a kaleidoscopic three-dimensional world of teaching spaces, flexible areas and an impressive system of open stairways opens up. The materials are raw, balanced in colours that support the BOLD design. Overall very successful.
Light and flexible with good acoustics
Designed by KUB arkitekter, Lindholmens Tekniske Gymnasium stands five storeys high and has a total floor area of 11,300 square metres. A feature of the upper secondary school is its flexible design, which allows the building itself to be used for the teaching of technical subjects.
Exposed wooden beams are a prominent feature of the interior of the building, while stairs, seating areas and other fixtures are also made of pale wood. The ample daylight flooding in through the glass facades creates a comfortable learning environment, which is supported by the superior acoustics.
Troldtekt acoustic panels in the colour natural wood have been installed on the ceilings, while a customised Troldtekt solution has been chosen for the walls – with milled grooves in the surface of the grey acoustic panels. The Troldtekt panels work well in the rooms intended for quiet study as well as in the open communal areas with their high ceilings and mixed soundscape.
“Many congratulations to Lindholmens Tekniske Gymnasium, the Municipality of Gothenburg and KUB arkitekter and the rest of the team behind this visionary building. We’re proud that Troldtekt is such a visible part of the architecture, and we’re delighted that our solutions make a real difference as regards both the acoustics and the design of this award-winning project,” says Jörgen Elofsson, Country Manager at Troldtekt AB.
