More accolades for acoustic panels based on new cement type
Troldtekt® acoustic panels based on the new cement type FUTURECEM™ have won a German Innovation Award 2022. The award pays tribute to sustainable design innovations.
For the second time in just a few weeks, Troldtekt is being honoured again for its acoustic panels based on the new cement type FUTURECEM. The panels, which have a reduced carbon footprint, have won a German Innovation Award in the ‘Excellence in Business to Business’ category. Troldtekt received the award at a ceremony in Berlin on 24 May.
The German Innovation Awards are presented by the German Design Council, which is also behind awards such as the German Design Award and the ICONIC Awards. The purpose of the German Innovation Award is to pay tribute to innovations which, among other things, lead to enhanced sustainability while minimising energy and resource consumption.
Free from harmful substances
Earlier in May, Troldtekt based on FUTURECEM cement received a Green Product Award – even as a ‘Best of’ in its category. Tina Snedker Kristensen, Head of Sustainability and Communications at Troldtekt A/S, says:
“The two prestigious awards confirm that we have developed an acoustics solution which is attractive to developers and their consultants. Minimising the carbon footprint of building materials is a top priority in the construction industry. The new acoustic panels can very much be part of the solution and, with Cradle to Cradle certification at Gold level, we have documented that the panels are free of harmful substances.
“It marks something of a breakthrough that we can replace traditional cement with FUTURECEM without impairing the properties of the panels. We now have a cement-based product which has a reduced carbon footprint compared to our panels based on traditional cement,” says Vibeke Pedersen, Head of Engineering Department at Troldtekt A/S.
FUTURECEM has a carbon footprint that is approx. 30 per cent lower than traditional cement.
EPDs ready for award-winning variants
Consultants and clients wanting to choose the award-winning acoustics panels for their projects can easily download documentation for the panels’ environmental impact. Environmental product declarations (EPDs) have been prepared for four different types of Troldtekt acoustic panels based on FUTURECEM. The EPDs cover painted and unpainted panels, both 25 mm and 35 mm thick, as well as the award-winning series of Troldtekt design solutions.
Troldtekt based on FUTURECEM has a carbon footprint that is 26 and 38 per cent lower than the carbon footprints of Troldtekt based on grey and white cement, respectively, measured throughout the entire life cycle of the acoustic panels.
