Troldtekt® based on the carbon-reduced cement type FUTURECEM™ wins a Green Product Award 2022. The international award honours innovative and sustainable design solutions.
At an awards ceremony on 18 May in Munich, the winners of the Green Product Award 2022 will be officially honoured. It is already clear that Troldtekt acoustic panels based on the patented cement type FUTURECEM are among the winners. A total of 100 products were nominated across 12 categories, and the Troldtekt acoustic panels have won the Building components category.
The new acoustic panels are special because they are made using FUTURECEM cement, which helps to significantly reduce the panels’ carbon footprint. The new cement type exploits the synergies between calcined clay and lime filler, and emits approx. 30 per cent less CO2 during its production than traditional cement.
Troldtekt based on FUTURECEM has a carbon footprint that is 26 and 38 per cent lower than the carbon footprints of Troldtekt based on grey and white cement, respectively, measured throughout the entire life cycle of the acoustic panels. Almost all the energy – 97.8 per cent – consumed at Troldtekt’s own factory comes from renewable sources.
A pat on the back from the market
An international jury of experts within areas such as architecture, design and the circular economy selected the winners of this year’s Green Product Award.
“It is a big pat on the back for us from the market that our new acoustic panels are – so soon after their launch – winning an international award for combining innovation, sustainability and design,” says Tina Snedker Kristensen, Head of Sustainability and Communications at Troldtekt A/S.
“Almost the entire carbon footprint of an acoustic panel comes from the cement. By replacing traditional cement with FUTURECEM, we have taken a big step in the right direction without altering the strength, useful life and acoustic properties of our acoustic panels,” she adds.
Cradle to Cradle-certified at Gold level
The new acoustic panels based on FUTURECEM are – like Troldtekt’s other cement-bonded wood wool products – certified according to the sustainable design concept Cradle to Cradle at Gold level. The certification covers the acoustic panels in both natural wood and painted in the standard colours white, black and grey.
Troldtekt has been Cradle to Cradle-certified for more than a decade, and bases its business strategy on the principles behind the certification. This means, among other things, that Troldtekt works with recycling in both the biological and technical cycles.
