Now you can vote: Several Aarhus projects with good acoustics compete to become the City’s Best

Several of the nominees for the City’s Best in Aarhus have more to offer than good food, culture, study and shopping experiences. There are also plenty of opportunities to experience an atmosphere of good acoustics in several of the buildings, where Troldtekt is part of the interior design.

This year’s venue for going out, this year’s family experience, this year’s bakery and this year’s study environment are just some of the awards to be presented for the 18th edition of the Best of the City in Aarhus.

Aarhus Stiftstidende will announce the winners in the 16 categories at an event at Tivoli Friheden on 24 August. Until 7 August, you can vote for your favourites.

Among the 80 nominees, there are a number of places that also focus on creating an atmosphere with good acoustics for guests. Here you can read about nine nominated projects where Troldtekt acoustic solutions are part of the design.

Tivoli Friheden: Nominated for Family Experience of the Year

The local amusement park offers activities, cultural offerings and restaurants for the whole family. As part of a larger landscape project to rethink the park’s recreational areas, a new round building has also been built.

The new building houses both the outdoor stage used for Friday events and the restaurants Madscenen and Backstage. Both restaurants have grey Troldtekt ceilings. Black-painted Troldtekt panels have also been used throughout the stage room and primarily have a sound-absorbing function.

Nicolinehus Market Hall: Nominated for New Opening of the Year

Burgers, dumplings, sea fish or Italian gelato? You can enjoy it all under the same roof in the Nicolinehus Market Hall on Aarhus Ø.

The market hall is made up of many different rooms and moods. You can sit along the facade and enjoy the city life and daylight or sit at a long table in the atrium with a different intense atmosphere. The place is architecturally tied together as small streets with mutual variations, using wood and Troldtekt in natural grey.

Tiende: Nominated for Restaurant of the Year

Ten floors up from the market hall in Nicolinehus is one of the new stars of the gastronomic map in Aarhus located.

Restaurant Tiende is oriented in two directions, allowing you to create different unique environments in the same room. The ceiling binds the interior together, and to create good acoustics throughout the restaurant, black-painted Troldtekt ceilings have been installed and hidden behind the wavy strips.

Lighthouse 2.0: Nominated for Architecture of the Year

At the outermost tip of Aarhus Ø, Lighthouse stands 142 metres high and is a landmark for the city in every way.

The qualities of the site are obvious, and the building has been named the World’s best high-rise building in 2023 in the 100-199 metre category. Troldtekt acoustic panels have been chosen for the entrances, corridors, stairwells and residential buildings to ensure pleasant acoustics. At the residential building, the ceiling is in natural grey, while the other rooms have white ceilings that highlight the warm earthy colour used on many wall surfaces.

Aarhus School of Architecture: Nominated for Study Environment of the Year

The architects of the future will benefit from the new premises at Godsbanen. The building design of the new school has an industrial rigour, which is counterbalanced by a dynamic spaciousness. You can see across rooms, and daylight travels far into the building and is supplemented by skylights. A very variable house despite a very sparse choice of materials.

The large open-plan rooms and drawing rooms feature grey Troldtekt acoustic ceilings in a square format. This homogeneity is reflected in the more enclosed spaces in the concrete cores, but black-painted Troldtekt acoustic panels have been chosen here.

Jumbo Bakery: Nominated for Baker of the Year

There are many good bakeries in Aarhus, but one of the most prominent in recent years is Jumbo Bakery, which has two central addresses in the city.

The interior style is characterised by the buildings’ previous life, where original surfaces and elements have been recycled in the renovation. This also applies to the Troldtekt ceiling, which “lives on” in Jumbo’s department in Ankersgade, where the building used to house a post office.

Clement bar: Nominated for this Year’s place to go out

Centrally located in Aarhus is Clement Bar, where festive Aarhusians meet every weekend to have fun and party until the light of the morning. Troldtekt acoustic ceilings contribute to a setting where it is possible to enjoy the music and talk over a drink in the bar.

Mollerup Golf Club: Nominated for Sustainable Association/Club of the Year

In northern Aarhus, between the woods and the city, you’ll find Mollerup Golf Club, which, in addition to an idyllic golf course, also has its own café and reception rooms - and this is where Troldtekt acoustic ceilings contribute to the good experience.

BR Tilst: Nominated for Kids Shopping of the Year

The ambition was to be a world-class toy store, and that’s what you’ll find in BR Tilst, a playground for children and childish souls. The store is designed at children’s height and has both a pirate ship playground, a Pippi Longstocking house and creative areas.

As part of the shop’s interior design, design company Ambiente painted the building’s existing Troldtekt ceilings black. The ceilings help to ensure good acoustics so that everyone has a good play experience.
