Hallerna School in Stenungsund, Sweden, wins building award
A newly-built school for pupils in the seventh to ninth grades is the winner of Stenungsund Municipality’s Building Award 2023. Troldtekt acoustic ceilings are part of the interior the school, which features a light and airy design.
Stenungsund Municipality presents an annual award that honours one of the municipality’s buildings or a facility with high quality design and execution. The winning project must also contribute identity and character to the community in the long term. Both the developer and the architects receive the award, which is only awarded to suitable candidates.
The newly built Hallerna School certainly fitted the bill in 2023, receiving the award in April 2024. The school has approximately 450 pupils in the seventh, eighth and ninth grades.
The municipality was the developer, and D Office Architects designed the school.
Stenungsund's Technical and Environmental Department is responsible for the nomination of projects and the Technical Authority’s executive committee is responsible for selecting the winner.
Troldtekt included in the school’s design
The committee's reasons for giving the award to the school included:
"The choice of materials and colours was well thought-out and has a clear connection to the surrounding scenery. The design of the premises thoughtfully enhances social interaction.
The school has a soft and playful design theme that offers both pupils and staff an inspiring environment. With its high-quality choice of materials and the constant presence of nature through the large windows, this building was the obvious choice as winner of the Building Award 2023."
Troldtekt acoustic ceilings have been chosen for all Hallerna School’s communal areas to ensure good acoustics, whatever the activity. Common to the school’s Troldtekt solutions is that they are installed on a visible T-profile system, which adds character to the large ceiling surfaces while blending in with the school’s light and airy design.
