Care home with a focus on the senses

Magdalene Mariehjemmet in Sorø (Denmark) is a modern independent care home where homeliness is the starting point for the care home's interior design and everyday life.

Troldtekt acoustic ceilings are the natural choice when wanting to ensure superior acoustics and a healthy indoor climate in, for example, healthcare buildings

The care home from 2023 is located on the outskirts of Sorø in a peaceful area with detached houses and an open countryside. The building is organised as an octagon, creating two courtyards. Surrounding the green space are 16 residences on two floors. That's a total of 64 homes. Each of the four units includes a large living room/common room, which is designed both for communal dining with its own serving kitchen and communal TV watching with soft furnishings. It’s very homely with bookshelves, knick-knacks, plants and patterned wallpaper.

Troldtekt panels were chosen for the ceilings in all of the communal areas. Visually, it creates a calm, cohesive surface with a tactile feel. Acoustics are also essential for ensuring a cosy living room atmosphere, which has been achieved here.

A warm welcome

The corridors also have Troldtekt ceilings and large windows facing the courtyards, which the corridors are oriented towards. While the residences are oriented around the courtyards, the entrance area with shared activities faces the entrance. Upon arrival, you notice the home's hallmarks, or 'the Marie spirit' – where cosiness, closeness and community are front and centre.

The kitchen is centrally located here and provides an experience of local flavour. The hairdresser and other communal facilities are also located here. A beautiful wooden staircase connects the floors in a double-height space, making it easy to find your way around the house. There is also a large communal room, which is used for everything from gymnastics to birthday parties.
