Circular café with sea views
Friends meet here for coffee, and business associates for lunch. A great place to warm up after a walk in the woods or a dip in the Sound. Café Jorden Rundt is located on Strandvejen at Charlottenlund, between the trotting track and Charlottenlund Søbad.
Café Jorden Rundt is a round building with a copper roof, which clearly dates from an earlier period. It was originally built in 1939 at the terminal for tram line 14. The building housed a waiting room, kiosk and toilets, up until 1972.
Café Jorden Rundt opened in 1991 following extensive renovation. The distinctive shape and elegant details have been well preserved. The original wooden benches follow the curve of the building’s earlier outer wall and are reminiscent of the time of the trams.
Two circles
The Café is open from morning to evening. Guests place their orders at the centre of the building, where there is a skylight. From here there is access to the kitchen at the rear, which was recently extended. This was the original, circular building with windows all around, while a large overhanging roof provided shelter for waiting passengers.
The outer section has now been adapted for year-round use, with glass walls to preserve the view. The inner section of the Café features white Troldtekt cement-bonded wood wool ceilings in an attractive radial arrangement. Troldtekt panels in the colour natural grey have been used in the former outdoor area, maintaining a distinction between the two sections.
The Troldtekt ceiling contributes to good acoustics, essential for ensuring a pleasant atmosphere in the café.
