Caronte in Carlsberg Byen

Arriving from the distinctly urban space of Carlsberg Byen in Copenhagen to the small square 'Fadet' at the entrance to J. C. Jacobsen's Garden and Restaurant Caronte is a great contrast.

Troldtekt acoustic ceilings are the natural choice when wanting to ensure superior acoustics in, for example, restaurants

Contrasts increase curiosity and pave the way for new experiences. The modern architecture of Carlsberg Byen meets the historic J.C. Jacobsen's Garden, and Italian interior design meets Nordic architecture. Experiencing the garden’s trees from inside a pink interior is a perfect contrast.

Caronte is a mythological figure who transports souls between different worlds, and the owners of this restaurant also want their food and wine to take the guest to a new place. The restaurant is run by the same owners as the renowned Rufino Osteria in Copenhagen, but here in Carlsberg Byen the focus is on modern Italian food and specially selected wines.

Harmonious interior design

Caronte is located in the 'Mineralvandshuset' ("Mineral Water House”), designed by Dorte Mandrup, with a fantastic location next to the old garden. You enter the restaurant from the small square, with the garden’s trees framed by large windows. The bar and open-plan kitchen are close to the entrance, and part of the restaurant is a few steps lower, giving the room extra ceiling height.

Acoustics have also been taken into account. As in many other places in Carlsberg Byen, sound-absorbing Troldtekt ceilings were chosen. Here they are painted in the special pink colour to match the walls, counters and tiles. The delicate colour contrasts with the green exterior and the black light fixtures and chairs.

The Caronte figure is depicted in a large image in the lower level of the restaurant. The interior feels very cohesive and inviting with its warm tones and charming atmosphere.
